Merikin Community Heritage Experience

The Merikins are a community in Trinidad descended from formerly enslaved African Americans and ex-soldiers of the British Colonial Marines. They settled in Trinidad between 1815 and the 1820s after fighting for the British during the War of 1812, in exchange for their freedom and land.
