Gasparee Caves

The Gasparee Caves tour is an exciting adventure that takes you to Gaspar Grande Island, where you’ll explore a stunning system of natural limestone caverns. The highlight is the “Blue Grotto,” a deep underground tidal pool. You’ll witness incredible natural formations and have the option to extend your day with a refreshing swim in a secluded Caribbean bay.

The tour begins with a comfortable vehicle pickup, followed by a scenic drive to the Western Peninsula. From there, you’ll board a private boat for a picturesque ride to Gaspar Grande Island. Once on the island, a certified CDA tour guide will lead you on a 25-minute uphill hike to the cave entrance.

The hike is an uphill ascent lasting approximately 25 minutes. While not overly strenuous for most, it does require a reasonable level of fitness. We advise wearing comfortable walking shoes with good grip. Please note, groups including infants, small children, and persons with mobility issues should be aware of this and make appropriate arrangements, or contact us to see where we can assist

Inside the caves, you’ll descend a sturdy metal stairway to explore magnificent natural formations of stalagmites and stalactites, some with whimsical nicknames like “The Buddha,” “Virgin Mary,” and “The Lovers.” The main attraction is the “Blue Grotto,” a mysterious, clear tidal pool at the bottom of the cave, illuminated by natural light filtering from above.

The standard tour, including pickup, travel, cave exploration, and return, takes approximately 4.5 hours. If you choose the optional 2.5-hour Caribbean Bliss extension (which includes lunch and a swim in a secluded bay), the total tour duration will be approximately 7 hours. No. While the Blue Grotto is a tidal pool, swimming in the cave itself is generally not permitted for safety reasons. However, the optional extension of the tour includes a 20-minute boat ride to a refreshing swim in a secluded bay on Gaspar Grande Island, providing the perfect opportunity to cool off in the Caribbean waters.

We recommend wearing comfortable, light clothing and sturdy, closed-toe walking shoes or sneakers for the hike and cave exploration. If you opt for the swimming extension, bring your swimwear, a towel, sunscreen, and a hat. It’s also a good idea to bring water for hydration.

Yes, a certified CDA (Chaguaramas Development Authority) tour guide will accompany you on Gaspar Grande Island to lead the hike and provide insightful information during your exploration of the Gasparee Caves. Our Trini Riddim team will also be with you from pickup to drop-off.

As this is an outdoor tour in a natural environment, there is a chance of encountering local wildlife, including snakes, on Gaspar Grande Island. Our guides are experienced and trained to ensure your safety and will provide further guidance on this during the initial briefing.

This is an add-on experience available at an extra cost. After your cave exploration and lunch, this extension allows you to head to a secluded bay on Gaspar Grande Island by boat for approximately 2.5 hours. Here, you can enjoy a refreshing swim, soak up the sun, relax to calming ocean sounds, and enjoy a tropical “Trini Riddims” drink before returning to the mainland.
